Sensuality and Splendor 2018 details and cost:

Join us for one week in my gorgeous native city exploring the art and architecture of the 16th and 17th centuries. We’ll learn how the ambitious papal families of Rome harnessed the visual arts to simultaneously cement the power of the Church in the face of rising Protestantism, and to strengthen their own names and wealth vis-à-vis their rivals and the disgruntled popolo (populace) of Rome.

We will gain an invaluable understanding of this vibrant period of art patronage and urban expansion all the while exploring the role played by artists such as Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernini, and Caravaggio, among others, as we stand before their breath-taking works. All this will take place not only in the city’s numerous world-class museums but also in the many churches and private galleries where the works of art have stood since their creation.

Following the sound advice to “do as the Romans do,” we will punctuate our fascinating art historical explorations with al fresco aperitivi in pretty piazze and on roof-top terraces with breath-taking views, dinners in local Roman osterie, a private cooking class, and an outing to a 16th-century countryside villa with a garden literally overflowing with spectacular fountains.

Join us for this unmissable experience. Contact Giulia to book your place and for more information at [email protected] or click on ‘Contact Us’ below.

I look forward to seeing you at the banquet!
